Which meter should you rent?

The UF801-P reaches further at both ends and does more. The ProLite is $200 a week cheaper. Two questions settle it: does your pipe fall inside DN25 to DN600, and is the job straightforward.

Ultraflux UF801-P

Nominal bore, log scale. Both meters clamp to the outside of the pipe — nothing is cut, drilled or shut down.

Start with pipe size

This rules the ProLite out, or leaves it in play.

  • Below DN25 or above DN600 — Ultraflux UF801-P. It is the only unit that reaches, covering DN10 to DN1000.
  • DN25 to DN600 — either meter works. Move to the next question.

The two ProLite sensor pairs. The 4 MHz pair covers small bore up to DN100; the 1 MHz pair runs to DN600.

Then ask how demanding the job is

The ProLite is a budget meter built for straightforward water applications. Anything that stretches beyond that is the UF801-P. Take the performance meter if any of these apply:

  • Fluid above +80 °C. High-temperature probe kits reach +140 °C. The ProLite stops at 80.
  • More than a working day on the pipe. The ProLite runs 12 hours on a battery. The UF801-P logs unattended for up to two months.
  • Thermal energy, BTU or kW as the deliverable. That needs the energy kit.
  • You want the data in analysis software. The UF801-P connects to a PC with dedicated Ultraflux software. The ProLite hands you a spreadsheet over USB.
  • Difficult pipe — lined, heavily attenuating or awkward. There is a probe kit for it.

If none of those apply and the pipe is clean water between DN25 and DN600, the ProLite does the job for $699 instead of $899.

Typical picks

Fire pump annual test, 6″ riser

Ultra ProLite. One day on site, small enough to carry up to the pump room. Fire pump testing

Chilled water balance, 40-coil building

Ultra ProLite. Ordinary water in DN25–DN600 pipe is exactly what the budget meter is for. Chilled water balancing

Water loss audit, 32″ distribution main

UF801-P. Above DN600 it is the only unit that reaches, and it logs for weeks unattended. Water loss auditing
